Our Legacy

The EV club of Shenandoah Valley Governor’s School was once a titan of the nation, competing in (and winning) races across the nation during its prime from the 1990s. In 1996 our Datsun finished third overall at the Third Annual Electric Vehicle Grand Prix at Richmond Raceway. From 2013-2016, the same Datsun continued to medal in 3 more races across Virginia and North Carolina, while being featured in numerous local news articles. We are seeking to reignite not only our club’s status, but the interest in commercial sized Electric Vehicles across the nation.

The Shenandoah Valley Governor’s School is in the process of reviving our EV team to its former glory. We believe that it is an excellent activity for any student to participate in, as it builds crucial skills in these students that are valuable in a plethora of careers that these students will seek after high school or college. The SVGS EV team creates hard workers, future engineers, and powerful leaders that result from the months of teamwork poured into restoring and building these cars. For these reasons we believe that it would be well beyond worth it to restore not only this club, but more like it across the nation as well to foster a new generation of engineers and leaders that will drive the future of the world toward a prosperous one.

Our Legacy

The Reboot Process

How it’s going

So far, the SVGS EV team has been operational for 1 fiscal year, after being revived from its last operations in 2016. In that time, our team was able to restore the old racing Datsun to working condition and create new diagrams for the car. The work required to get the Datsun to working order was months of wire tracing and repairs throughout the car; however, thanks to the hard work of the members on our team, we were able to complete this task and restore the Datsun to racing condition again after sitting for almost 10 years.
